"Helmet Christ is a pioneer in Germany's organic winemaking community. Helmut and his wife Agelika have farmed organically since 1974 having seen conventional farming methods lead to extreme erosion in the vineyard.

'Nature was no longer able to withstand simple environmental influences... Neither Man nor Nature benefitted from this type of farming. In search of alternatives, I came across biodynamic farming. The sustainability of land management via natural fertility [compost], the health of the crops, the vitality of the animals, the taste of the products themselves, and the conviction of the farmers convinced me to implement Biodynamics not only in the vineyard, but in the winery too. In my opinion Biodynamics contributes to high-quality wine which can age.'

 The 9.5-hectare property has been Demeter certified since 2006. Helmut's son Michael now heads the winery with a commitment to typical profiles of the region, but is approaching stylistically experimental cuvees as well."
